Oakmont Saturday Early Birds - 2025
The Oakmont Saturday Early Birds is a men’s golf group that plays early tee times from March through October at Oakmont Green Golf Course in Hampstead, MD. We play every outing for cash prizes and have a banquet with door prizes at our last outing.
Q: What is the schedule?
A: We play about every 2 weeks from late March to late October, teeing off at 7:00 AM when the light is right. Click here to see the full schedule.

Q: Do I have to commit to playing every outing?
A: No, you can choose to golf only those outings where your schedule allows. Play only 1 time or play all 16 outings. All we ask is that if you intend to play, that you let us know by selecting "playing" from the invitation email or the Golf Genius app by Thursday, 6:00 PM the week of the round.

Q: What does it cost to play?
A: $10 required for all golfers each outing. $5 optional buy in for closest to pin for par 3’s, and $5 optional buy in for skins. Contest fees are payable at the check-in table the day of the outing, cash only. Payment for your greens fees is separate, and payable to the golf course, cash or credit. Oakmont Green gives a greens fees discount to Saturday Early Bird golfers.

Q: Can I play with a friend?
A: Yes, you can elect to play with one other person each outing. If you have a preferred playing partner, and both of you show that week, we will pair you together. Singles are welcome too. We put together four-man teams the morning of the outing, and your four-man team plays against all other teams on the course that day.

Q: What is the format for play?
A: The format for play varies each match. For the majority of outings, you play your own ball tee to hole. One player from each team enters scores using the Golf Genius app, and the system figures out the rest. Every outing we also have optional pay-in contests for closest to the pin on par 3’s, and skins. Click here to see the formats for play.

Q: How good do I have to be to play?
A: All skill levels are welcome, as the Oakmont Saturday Early Birds is a handicap league. We compute your handicap based on what you shoot in the league. If you already have a handicap with USGA, another league, or another course let us know. For each outing, we use your handicap to adjust your scores relative to all the other golfers on the course.

Q: What are the payouts?
A: The league will keep 10% of the kitty for the end-of-season tournament. The remaining money will be paid out to the top two or three teams, depending on the number of golfers we have. If we have 13 or more golfers, the top 3 teams will get paid (60%, 30%, 10% of kitty). If we have 12 golfers or less, the top 2 teams will get paid (70%, 30% of kitty).
For example, if we have 28 golfers we will collect $10 x 28 = $280.00. We will keep $28 for the end of season tournament. The first-place team will split $151.20, second place gets $75.60, and the third-place team gets $25.20.
For the optional Closest to Pin (CTP) contest, the winners on holes 2, 6, 11 and 15 will each get one fourth of the CTP pot.
For the skins contest, if you score the lowest gross score for a hole against all others in the field who bought in, you win a skin. The value of each skin is determined by dividing the skins pot by the total skins awarded. For example, if 20 golfers enter the skins contest the skins pot is $100. If 5 skins are awarded, then each skin is worth $20. So, if a player wins 2 skins, he gets $40.
